Honestly? We don't know either. No one does — but we'll help you feel ready for whenever that day is, instead of anxious about the wait.
Yes — as long as you've had an initial physician risk assessment, you're welcome to transfer your care to us at any point after.
We have a strong working relationship with a local OB and hospital for exactly this situation. Plans can change, and sometimes we have to pivot — we try to make that as seamless as possible: we fax records ahead of time, give a full report to the receiving provider, and stay to support you at the hospital. We're located just 2 miles from our nearest hospital.
Absolutely — partners, doulas, and family are all welcome and encouraged. Doulas in particular are a huge asset for an unmedicated birth.
Not outside of a hospital setting — Louisiana midwifery regulations don't allow it. What we can do is support you through pregnancy and postpartum around a planned hospital VBAC, working alongside a trusted consulting OB.
Every client completes a physician risk assessment early in pregnancy. To initiate and remain in our care, your pregnancy must be low risk — we assess risk status throughout care. Twin pregnancies, breech presentation, and out-of-hospital VBAC (Vaginal Birth After Cesarean) fall outside our scope of practice.
Within about an hour of Lafayette.
You're covered by a team of backup midwives. Any planned time off is scheduled well in advance, and due dates are managed around it.
Labor is hard work and can be intense, so preparing physically and emotionally during pregnancy matters. Childbirth education classes, prenatal yoga, exercise, relaxation techniques, and other community-based programs all help build confidence and coping skills ahead of time.
During labor, we support a variety of non-pharmacological comfort measures, including movement, water immersion, massage, emotional support, a TENS unit, birth balls, music, heat, and aromatherapy.
Epidurals and other pharmaceutical pain medications aren't available for birth center or home births. If you need or choose an epidural, our midwifery team will support you and accompany you to the hospital for continued care.
That's exactly what the free consultation is for — no pressure, just real answers.
