Baby Catcher Birth Center — Meet Our Midwives

Meet Our Midwives

The People Behind Your Care

Baby Catcher is more than one midwife — it's a small team built around the same relationship-first philosophy, so care never depends on just one person's schedule.

Shatamia's Story

Shatamia's Path to Midwifery

I've always wanted to be in medicine. Growing up, I pictured myself as an OB/GYN — I even finished a bachelor's degree in biology with that in mind. After undergrad, medical school wasn't the right next step for me, and I ended up working in a local petroleum lab instead. That's actually where I first learned about midwifery, through a program at SLCC. I enrolled, and everything changed.

I completed midwifery school in 2014 and finished my clinical training as an apprentice with a local midwife, working in both a birth center and a home birth practice. All in, that path took about five years — and honestly, midwifery never really stops teaching you. It's a lifelong art form.

I've been licensed since June 2017. I took a year off after getting licensed, just to collect myself, and I've been actively practicing ever since. I'm certified through NARM (the North American Registry of Midwives) and licensed through the State of Louisiana.

Outside of work, I enjoy traveling, spending time with my family and friends, and creating family traditions with my kids.

"It's not about the number of clients for me. I'd rather build genuine relationships and truly connect with people than to have a full calendar of people that I can't remember. Midwifery is a sacred art that should be cherished and surrounded by trust."

Family & Practice

Never really alone in this.

I'm a proud mom to two boys, Jai and Jru — both born at home with a midwife. My husband and family are the reason any of this is possible; they're my support system through every late night and every birth.

I work with a team of backup midwives, part-time midwives, and students, so coverage never depends on just me.

"
It was empowering. It was healing. I want women to discover a strength, power, and resilience within themselves that they never knew existed.
